Refineries
In refineries, MPC-based advanced process control is widely used to optimize major process units. Its effectiveness, however, depends directly on the quality of the underlying base layer control, including the performance of control loops, instrumentation, control valves and the utility and energy networks supporting the facility.
Deficiencies at this level can result in:
- Limited MPC performance and excessive process variability
- Unstable and inefficient steam, cogeneration, and process gas networks
- Increased energy costs and flaring
MPC & Energy Optimization
Enero Solutions focuses on maximizing the performance of existing MPC applications by optimizing base-layer control, instrumentation, and energy networks, with the required control strategies embedded directly within the control system.
This approach makes it possible to:
- Maximize the performance of base-layer controls and existing MPC applications by validating the dynamic response of control valves and instrumentation, optimizing controller tuning, and training instrumentation teams on PID control, cascade control, and feedforward strategies;
- Stabilize and optimize hydrogen and refinery gas networks using IMBC™ technology, which coordinates gas producers, consumers, and the flare system to reduce variability, improve availability, maximize the use of internally generated gases, and reduce purchased fuel consumption;
- Optimize utilities and cogeneration by coordinating boilers, steam networks, turbines, pressure-letdown equipment, and energy constraints to improve system stability, efficiency, and automatic operation. Where possible, increase the financial return from these systems.
