Smart BMS

BMS (Burner Management System)
The Burner Management System (BMS) is a central element in the safety and availability of boilers, fired heaters, and other combustion equipment. It ensures the safe execution of critical sequences, including burner light-off, shutdown, and burner supervision, in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and requirements, including CSA and NFPA.
BMS systems are commonly designed as protection systems operating relatively independently from process control and can be difficult for operating teams to diagnose.
This “black-box” effect can result in:
- Extended downtime following a trip, when the root cause cannot be identified quickly;
- Manual operator intervention, required to manage certain sequences, abnormal situations, or restart conditions;
- Reduced combustion-equipment availability, resulting from limited visibility into sequences, permissives, interlocks, and the events preceding a shutdown.
Enero Solutions developed its Smart BMS approach by integrating combustion safety, process control, and automation to provide operating teams with a clear understanding of system operation.
Developed in collaboration with the plant operation team and adapted to actual plant operating conditions, Smart BMS makes it possible to:
- Quickly identify the cause of trips and safety shutdowns through advanced diagnostics, event traceability, and clear, structured HMI displays;
- Maximize automatic operation and accelerate the return to safe operation through sequences designed for the normal and abnormal situations encountered in the plant;
- Improve combustion-system availability and reliability through better operational visibility, reduced manual intervention, and remote-support capabilities.
