Advanced Solid-Fuel Combustion Control

Biomass Power and Waste-to-Energie

Combustion stability and optimized solid-fuel management are essential to maximizing profitability, availability, and energy efficiency in biomass power plants and waste-to-energy facilities.

Solid-fuel combustion control strategies typically rely on available boiler measurements and overall air and fuel adjustments.

They can have difficulty responding to rapid variations in moisture content, heating value, fuel composition, and fuel distribution across the grate, resulting in:

  • Combustion and thermal-load instability, limiting boiler capacity and increasing steam-production variability;
  • Slagging, thermal imbalances, and accelerated equipment wear, resulting from uneven heat distribution within the furnace;
  • Frequent operator intervention, limiting automatic operation and the ability to operate near the technical limits of the unit.

Enero Solutions uses its LeanAir™ multivariable advanced combustion control (APC) technology, based in part on heat-release soft sensors, to monitor combustion distribution across the grate in real time, correct imbalances, and:

  • Maximize automatic operation and production capacity by maintaining stable combustion closer to the technical limits of the boiler or incinerator;
  • Stabilize heat distribution across the grate and throughout the furnace to reduce slagging, equipment wear, and thermal stresses;
  • Improve combustion efficiency and environmental performance by optimizing air distribution, heat release, and combustion conditions despite fuel variability.
